Want to see a flitty yellow warbler? How about a bold Baltimore oriole, or a chatty grackle? If you love birds, especially our beautiful Spring migrants, here's a few tips to turn your green space into a birdie Shangri-La.

1. Grow Native Plants
Native plants are like hometown diners for birds- they offer reliable food and a place to relax. Birds recognize these plants as safe and snack-worthy because they've evolved alongside them.
2. Offer Fresh Water
Imagine flying 3,000 miles without a drink—no thank you! Migratory birds need water for both hydration and bathing. A birdbath, shallow dish, or even a puddle maker will do the trick. Just remember to refill it daily (especially in warmer months) and keep it clean.
3. Go Pesticide-Free
Keep your grubs, caterpillars, and yes, even the spiders too! They’re a rich source of protein, especially for baby birds, who rely on insects to grow strong. A bug-friendly yard = a bird-friendly yard.
4. Create Cozy Hideouts
Birds need safe spots to rest and build their nests. Leaf piles, dense shrubs, and birdhouses make wonderful shelters.

5. Use Bird Feeders Wisely
Feeders are a fantastic supplement when used with care. Keep them clean and stocked with goodies like black oil sunflower seeds or hummingbird nectar. Clean feeders = healthy birds.
